Royal Sydney: Rose Bay mansion hits market for $33m

There’s some good news for trophy home hunters searching for a last-minute Christmas surprise in Sydney’s east – if they have about $33 million to spare.

That’s the guide for the Rose Bay home of former Lendlease development director Kimberley Jackson and her husband, managing director of reinsurance giant Swiss Re’s Australian and New Zealand operations Mark Senkevics, who are set to sell their grand home overlooking Royal Sydney Golf Club.

Kimberley Jackson and Mark Senkevics bought the property for $7.6 million in 2016.

The five-bedroom home sits on about 1300 square metres, and if the sprawling Myles Baldwin-designed gardens aren’t enough, there’s always the 27-hole Royal Sydney Golf Club onto which the home fronts – if you’re up for the decade-long waitlist and $30,000 admission fee.

Along with landscaped grounds, the property comes with a swimming pool, alfresco entertaining area, gym, chef’s kitchen, butler’s pantry, cellar, separate library and lower-level guest accommodation. The couple paid $7.6 million for the original-condition property in 2016, according to CoreLogic.

While Ms Jackson has overseen a contemporary renovation of the 1912-built home, her professional works are on a slightly larger scale, helming some of the biggest urban development projects in Australia.

These include multibillion-dollar projects at Sydney’s Barangaroo and Circular Quay during her 26-year stint with Lendlease and more recently as project director of a multi-tower tech precinct near Central Station, Central Place Sydney, with Frasers Property Australia and Dexus.

The Rose Bay listing comes five months after Ms Jackson announced she was joining the ranks of Nicole Scurrah’s recently formed urban project consultancy outfit, Create Advisory.

While the verdant vistas of Royal Sydney are second only to the nearby harbour panoramas, Kent Road is considered on par with Rose Bay’s best streets.

The property fronts directly onto Royal Sydney Golf Club and sits next to John Hewson’s former home, Fairways (on right).

Next door to the Jackson-Senkevic’s listing is the sprawling estate Fairways. Sitting on about 2500 square metres, Fairways was once home to former Liberal Party leader and Member for Wentworth Dr John Hewson who sold it to former Tricom Equities managing director and Sydney margin-loan veteran Lance Rosenberg and his wife, Julie, in 2004 for $13.5 million.

Kent Road is also the long-time home of actress, singer and songwriter Danielle Spencer, who resides in the Arts & Craft-style mansion Te Puke she and ex-husband Russell Crowe purchased for $10 million in 2011.

The Jackson-Senkevics’ property – which is listed by Sotheby’s agents Michel Pallier and Clint Ballard – is expected to eclipse the street record that was set in March with the $20.05 million sale of Investec chief executive Milton Samios and his interior designer wife Jacci’s home over the road to buyer Fan Yanhong.

The Kent Road property fuses original features with a contemporary extension.

While it’s unusual to see a significant listing two weeks out from Christmas, a string of speedy silly season sales may have bolstered vendor hopes for a 2023-inked deal.

Other quick-turnaround December sales in Sydney’s east include the Watsons Bay record $30 million plus sale of Clear Skincare Clinics founder Dr Philippa McCaffery’s Camp Cove beachfront; Jennifer Hershon’s $30 million sale in Bellevue Hill; and mechanic Steve Davidson and wife Carmen circa $36 million sale, also in Bellevue Hill.
